Tackle the Dreaded Home Improvement To-Do List

For all Your Kitchen and Bath Design Questions! We’ve got answers

Change of Seasons always seems to bring up the eternal home renovation To-Do list! The transition from nice weather to cooler weather typically send us back inside where we have ignored the things that need attention, or we have been focused on completing outdoor, patio or garden work instead.

Whether, it is deep cleaning, decluttering, replacing worn surfaces, or complete renovations, any season change is a great time to tackle neglected projects.

If you’re anything like me the visual reminders of home improvement “things” needing attention are speaking loud and clear! As I walk by each room in the house, my to-do list continues to grow from closet storage, trim work, fresh paint, to complete overhauls, there always seems to be something to that requires attention.

Make a list of the tasks you want to tackle Room by Room. You then have a starting point to begin costing out materials to create a budget and time frame estimate for each space. This “list” will become the plan or blueprint for any home remodeling project.

Try not to take on more than one room at a time or it is easy to get overwhelmed and have your home in chaos.

Before to take on a major renovation (i.e. redoing your bathroom) be sure to consult with a professional if you have no prior experience. Working with a designer (especially for kitchen and bathroom projects, look for a certified Kitchen and Bath Designer in your area) can not only save you time but can save you money by avoiding costly mistakes. Using professional, licensed trades, mainly plumbers and electricians, will guarantee the safety and quality of the work done on your home. In some cases you may be required to apply for permits with your local municipality.

If you are considering a full renovation, look at my Inside Renovations e-book for all kinds of tips, tricks and truths you need to know BEFORE you renovate your home.

Most of all, enjoy the process and take your time to do the best possible job. A well done project improves the value of your home.
