Stittsville Kitchen

Before and After

Kitchen & Bathrooms that limit the full experience of your home are transformed into comfortable, enjoyable spaces that you can truly live in.

Stittsville kitchen –

Having the opportunity to work on a custom built home is always special but this home was incredibly unique. The home-owners were looking for a design that fit their family of six, provide refined architectural elements yet set apart from the ordinary. Their love of detailed mouldings was our starting point. The kitchen/dining room is situated in the centre of the home making it the primary hub of activity. It was important to have a working preparation area near the refrigerator but not in the same triangle. This allows for the primary cook to work and prepare meals, while other family passes through the kitchen (often stopping by the refrigerator). The space set aside for the double fridges keeps the traffic away from cooking and meal prep activities. In the island we included a small copper sink on one side and the microwave (at base level) on the other side keeping the surface free of obstruction to allow for serving and entertaining. The island has grand curved posts creating seating on each end.

The range hood becomes a featured detail in this space being the focal point from the main entry points. The home-owners selected beautiful onlay pieces to adorn the front and below we included the same corbels seen on the fluted columns around the kitchen. The small columns beside the range both below and above the counter include pantry pull-outs for storage of spices, oils and cooking ingredients.

The shallow pantries on the end wall include a hidden entrance into the butler’s pantry, where an extra fridge, food storage and small appliances are stored. When the doors are closed it appears to be a row of cabinets.

The large copper apron front sink catches the eye on the opposite side of the pantries. Flanked on either side by the double dishwashers this kitchen is ready for the largest group. The curved bar top on the back side of the sink area is supported by spectacularly carved columns creating functional space that gives the homeowners the look and feel they were after.

But we’re not finished! To keep a consistent flow into the dining room we wrapped the cabinets around the corner and continued along the full wall creating a built-in feature for china and glassware storage. Each of the eight upper doors feature custom designed glass inserts with a unique pattern that flows from door to door. Truly a master piece. Additional details of the onlays above the end units carry the ornamentation through from the kitchen without competing with the glass design. The entire kitchen and dining room was wrapped with a collection of four pieces of different mouldings creating further detail that completes this spectacular space.

Clients Comments:

The service, quality of cabinets and workmanship that Natalia and her staff provided us for our custom home was second to none. Natalia took the time to ask what was important to us, style, colours, function etc.  She has a keen sense of design and style that not only makes our kitchen a joy to cook in but makes it a showcase for visitors. Natalia was very professional and a pleasure to work with. TA.
